Quan Tho once said, “Life itself has pushed me to art field and certainly art has become the best friend in my life since I was a child.”
Born in 1951, Quan Tho spent his childhood years in the orphanage of Domain de Marie Church (DaLat). In his subconscious, this has always been a really special place; a place of beauty. The romantic hills, the peaceful lake and the quiet deserted streets gave him his first impetus in painting.
He was taught by a French pastor at a very early age in his life in the highlands of DaLat. In 1972 he arrived in Saigon and graduated from Fine Arts School of Saigon in 1979. Since then, he spent many years painting landscapes in the open air, making wide ranging discoveries related to his visual experiences as well as to the painting techniques. His style of painting emerged, characterized by his in-depth investigation of the visual phenomenon in nature, a paroling approach and resulting raw power.
In addition to Vietnam, his art has been exhibited in the US, France, England, Switzerland, Taiwan, Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore and are widely collected by many private collectors throughout the world.
Each painting is a story which he would like to convey to the world. “For me, life is wonderful. I’m always honest with my work, with my thoughts, alone in the life of me. This always gives me inspiration in art. I just hope that once I die, my works will remain, and hope that art lovers will always remember me!"
