Eide

The works of Eide Hansamut focuses upon and enhances the stunning forms and brilliant colors of the natural environment. Her careful brush strokes and mindful compositions result in a work that is both a real depiction of nature as well as a dynamic visual performance of simple shape and form. Bold in both color and design, bordering on the abstract, Eide Hansamut infuses real depictions of Hawaiian flora with the power, dynamism and vibrancy of human emotion. From the unfolding innocence of a single blooming white flower to the red, yellow, blue and green Croton plant with its tangled web of defiant patterns and colors, Eide renders the spirit of human character, personality and feeling.

Born in 1971 in Singapore to an East Indian father and a Chinese mother, Eide started showing interest in painting at age five. While growing up in the American Southwest (Arizona) and later traveling throughout the world, she taught herself the art of painting in oil. As a self-taught artist, there are no boundaries to her creativity.

Currently she lives along the eastern shores of the Big Island, Hawaii. Like California Plein Air artists of the 1920s, Eide chooses to paint directly from the environment around her. This technique is not used by most contemporary artists who commonly chose to paint from photographs. This direct contact with nature is perhaps why she is able to understand and depict the vital and wild essence of the natural world so accurately.
